Experience

Assistant District Attorney, State of North Carolina, 31st District, 2007 – 2019. 

Lieutenant Colonel (2022- Present), U.S. Army Reserve, Judge Advocate General’s Corp, 2008 – Present. 

Jonathan is an honors graduate of Wake Forest University School of Law and has been practicing law for over fourteen years.  Before entering private practice, he spent many years in public service. 

After over a decade serving as an Assistant District Attorney in Winston-Salem, Jonathan founded Friel Law in 2020.  As a long-time prosecutor he tried numerous jury trials in Superior Court on charges ranging from DWI to First Degree Murder.  

Jonathan is also a JAG Officer with the rank of Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve.  He has prior experience as an active duty military prosecutor at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
